Academic Curriculum
The Middle School learning program is based on the Australian Curriculum and is enhanced through the lens of a Christian worldview. It is used to lay the foundations needed for future learning, growth and active participation in the Australian community.
Students in Years 7 study a range of core subjects, with opportunities to choose elective subjects in Years 8 and 9. This allows students to experience a variety of subject areas that will help them to make informed choices in Senior School.
A Developmental Curriculum
Core subjects are compulsory and include English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Chinese, Creative Arts, Physical Education, Digital Technology and Christian Living. These subjects expose students to important learning experiences in preparation for success in Senior School.
Elective subjects, such as Home Economics, Industrial Technology and Business, provide an opportunity for students to begin to pursue areas of specific interests in line with their gifts and talents.
Our curriculum is structured to gradually progress students from a core curriculum in Year 7, towards a broader exposure to elective subjects by Year 9.
Middle Schooling at Heights College intentionally develops the learning and pedagogy with an understanding that students in this age group require targeted approaches. We aspire to produce Middle School students who are adaptable, flexible, ethically aware, able to work collaboratively with others and with a strong sense of their identity as a learner and as a Christian.
