Sport
PRIMARY
Students in Primary school participate in one 50 minute Health and Physical Education lesson each week. In addition to HPE lessons, students participate in swimming lessons during Term 1, and in Terms 2, 3 and 4 an 'intraschool' sports competition is held for students in Years 1-4 to develop skills and good sportsmanship.
Students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in Interschool sports competitions in Terms 2, 3 and 4 in the fields of netball, rugby league, hockey and basketball.
Heights is also very competitive in the interschool athletics and swimming carnivals held throughout the year.
Students also have the opportunity to join different 'club' sports including touch football, basketball and golf.
SECONDARY
Heights College actively promotes physical activity and provides many and varied opportunities for students to be involved, both as part of their College and in the wider community. Students have the opportunity to compete in Rockhampton and District Secondary School Sport competitions across all four terms of the school year. The sports currently on offer are futsal, boys cricket, basketball, soccer, girls netball, boys rugby league and volleyball.
Students are given the chance to represent their College house in annual school carnivals in swimming, cross-country and athletics. These are great occasions for students to compete, have fun and barrack for their house! The top-performing students may then go on to represent the College at District carnivals. District trials in a wide range of team and individual sports are also available to students.
A recent initiative introduced at Heights is 'Wednesday afternoon sport'. This time is set aside for Year 7 - 11 students to be actively involved in varied sport and recreational activities such as squash, walking, trampolining, dancing, aerobics, swimming and many more. This time also allows for sporting teams to hone their skills for Interschool competition.
